# Add a claim number to a Coverage B filter

Translates a claim number to a claim ID using a throwaway task instance, then adds the resolved ID to the collection filter.

## Steps

1. If the supplied claim number is non-empty, create a throwaway `clsCoverageBTask` with `ClaimID = 0`.
2. Assign `ClaimNum`, which resolves the claim through `clsClaimData` and validates via [BR-CB-01](../business-rules.md#br-cb-01-coverage-b-task-must-reference-a-valid-coverage-b-claim).

   > **Origin**: This step reuses the claim resolution logic from [Change the claim on a task](op-8-change-claim-on-task.md).
3. Add the resulting `ClaimID` to the inherited `ClaimList` filter and discard the temporary task.*

## Failure and edge-case behavior
- Constructs a throwaway task purely to translate claim number to claim ID — a per-call database round trip whose performance impact was not measured.*
